The Transit Custom is Britain’s best-selling van and has become a serious alternative to the VW Transporter for campervan conversion. The current V710 model, launched in 2023, has a lower floor and a longer load bay than the old van, with L1 and L2 lengths and, for the first time, a factory high-roof option. It is available with the 2.0 EcoBlue diesel, a plug-in hybrid with real electric-only range for short trips, and a fully electric E-Transit Custom. Because the new Transporter T7 is built on the same platform, most of the components we have developed for the Ford now fit both vans. It slides the full length of a rail bonded and bolted into the insulated floor and locks at any point, so you can push it forward for a load run, sit it mid-way for passengers, or slide it back and fold it flat into a double bed. Choose a 112 cm two-seater, a 118 cm three-seater or, on the V710 only, the 126 cm three-seater with Isofix. It is trimmed in black eco-leather and Alcantara, TÜV-approved, crash-tested on its rail and, like everything we fit, covered by our 3 year warranty. The Prestige Tourer and U Tourer come with a Westdubs roof in white or black gelcoat, while the Prestige Tourer Plus, Mountain Tourer and Advent Tourer use a colour-coded Reimo roof with front spoiler and sprung elevating bed; the Reimo is a £4,370 upgrade on the V710 Prestige. Austops roofs are also available as a stand-alone service. Roofs can be paired with the nearside multi-rail for a drive-away awning, and a Maxxfan or solar panel can be fitted into the roof skin. We cut and bond fixed and sliding windows into the side and rear quarter panels using the manufacturer’s process, matched to the factory tint. Opening windows with flyscreens are available for the sliding-door side. For the cab we fit Dometic pleated blinds that clip to the windscreen and door windows for privacy and insulation, replacing loose silver screens. The Prestige Tourer Plus steps up to a full Victron 400Ah lithium system with MultiPlus-II 3000VA inverter and 300W solar as standard, and the same Victron system is a £3,460 upgrade on the Clayton packages. Yes. Our furniture, electrics and roof fitting have all been developed for the V710, including the diesel, PHEV and E-Transit Custom variants. We also continue to convert the previous-generation (2012 to 2023) Transit Custom. #### Should I choose L1 or L2 for a camper? The L1 is the more popular choice for a day van or weekend camper with a pop-top, as it is easier to park and drives like a car. The L2 adds roughly 40cm of load length, which unlocks the Advent Tourer with its fixed rear toilet and privacy door, a double induction hob and the 500W solar option. We can show you both layouts drawn on the actual floor plans. #### Is the PHEV suitable for a camper conversion? Yes, and it is increasingly popular. The plug-in hybrid gives silent electric running around town and still has a petrol engine for touring range. We design the leisure electrics to charge from the vehicle correctly and can fit an electric heater so no diesel system is required. #### How long does a Transit Custom conversion take? A pop-top and Mobiframe day van can be turned around in 3 to 4 weeks.
