MAN TGE Campervan Conversions
The MAN TGE is built alongside the Volkswagen Crafter in the same factory and shares its body, chassis and engines, so it offers the same three lengths, three roof heights and the same choice of front, rear or all-wheel drive. Where it differs is everything around the van: MAN sells and supports the TGE through its truck dealer network, with extended workshop hours, mobile technicians and MAN Mobile24 roadside assistance across Europe, which is a genuine benefit when your camper is your home for weeks at a time.
TGE base vehicles are often keenly priced against the equivalent Crafter, and MAN offers gross weights from 3.0 to 5.5 tonnes, so there is scope to build a heavier, better-equipped camper without sacrificing payload. The 2024 update brought the same digital cockpit and driver-assistance package as the Crafter, along with the electric eTGE.
The whole Tourer XL range is available on the TGE, with five packages on the MWB and the Valiant and Horizon Tourer XL on the LWB, and we build fully bespoke TGE campers to order. Every build is completed in our ISO 9001 certified workshop with a 3 year warranty.

We are asked this on almost every enquiry, so here is the honest answer. Inside the load bay the two vans are identical, which means every layout, bed system, kitchen and roof we build for the Crafter fits the TGE without modification. The badge, grille, wheel designs and infotainment branding are different, and MAN offers its own trim levels and option packs.
The practical differences are commercial. MAN dealers are set up for working vehicles, so booking a service around a trip tends to be easier and out-of-hours support is better. Lead times and discounts can also differ between the two brands at any given time, and some customers simply prefer the look of the TGE. If you are undecided, we are happy to talk through current availability and pricing on both before you commit to a base vehicle.

The kitchen is the centrepiece of every TGE we build. Curved cabinet fronts and a matching top box are cut on our own CNC router, edge-banded and assembled in the workshop, so the run fits the van’s side wall exactly and every drawer opens cleanly with the sliding door shut.
Every XL kitchen has a double induction hob, a sink with concealed hot and cold tap and a pop-up socket with wireless charger. Fridges are sized to the package: a Vitrifrigo C50i double-opening fridge on the Prestige, Valiant and Horizon, a 70L Dometic on the Regal and Ocean, and a 90L Thetford on the Coastal and Highland, where the hob also hides in a drawer to free up worktop. The whole system is gasless, so there are no bottles to store or certify.
A TGE conversion is a year-round vehicle, so we install a Truma Combi D6E as standard: diesel and 240V electric heating with an integrated water heater, controlled from a digital panel. Warm air is ducted through the furniture to the washroom, bed and living area rather than blowing from a single vent.
Fresh and waste water live in 63L underslung tanks on the MWB packages, rising to 90L each on the LWB Valiant and Horizon Tourer XL. On the Prestige, Valiant and Horizon the tanks are insulated with a switched heat pad on the fresh tank, so they will not freeze on a winter ski trip, and a 12V dump valve empties the waste at the press of a button. Levels are shown on the Victron Touch 70 display.
We cut and bond windows into the TGE body in-house using the same process as the vehicle manufacturers, matched to the factory tint. Thermal blackout blinds are fitted to the front side windows and barn-door windows on every XL package, and Remis cab blinds for the windscreen and cab doors are a £995 upgrade that replaces loose silver screens.
A Maxxfan with Maxxshade Deluxe blind and LED light handles ventilation and cooking steam, the shower room has its own Maxxdome, and a sliding-door flyscreen lets you leave the van open on warm evenings.
A 3 m Vamoose awning rail on the nearside is included in every XL package, ready for a drive-away awning. Upgrade to a Thule 4200 wind-out awning in anthracite (£975) with Thule LED lighting and switch (£465) to double your living space the moment you park. On a high-roof TGE the awning mounts cleanly above the sliding door with no visible brackets in the load bay.
A Scanstrut Atmos 12V compressor boxed into the rear quarter (£595) inflates paddle boards, kayaks and air awnings, so the outdoor gear is as well thought out as the inside.
Inside the load bay, yes. The two vans share the same body and dimensions, so our furniture, bed frames, washroom modules and pop-top roofs fit both without change. The differences are in the front-end styling, dealer network, warranty terms and how each brand prices and specifies the base vehicle.

We can advise on the specification to order, including roof height, wheelbase, gross weight, diff ratio and factory options such as swivel seat bases and towing prep, before you sign.
Yes. Every XL package becomes a four-berth with the Atek pop-top upgrade (£9,220 with mattress and ladder), and the Mobiframe RAM03 twin seat on the Highland, Prestige and Valiant Tourer XL provides two Isofix travel seats. On the Ocean and Horizon the twin benches give four seats by day and a pull-out double by night.
Once a conversion includes fixed seating and table, sleeping, cooking and storage facilities you can apply to the DVLA to change the body type to motor caravan, which affects insurance and speed limits. All our builds meet these requirements and we provide the photographs and details you need to apply.
On a 3.5t TGE MWB a Prestige Tourer XL specification typically leaves comfortable payload for two adults, full water and luggage. For larger XLWB builds with 600Ah of lithium and extra equipment we recommend the 4.0t or 5.0t chassis, and we weigh every completed vehicle before handover.
Yes. On the eTGE we design the leisure electrics to charge from the vehicle’s DC system safely and specify a diesel-free Truma electric heater. Range remains the main consideration for touring, so we talk through how you plan to use the van before recommending it.

We design each TGE interior in CAD around your chosen wheelbase and roof height, then cut it on our own machinery. Because the same team designs, cuts and fits, we can adjust a layout at the drawing stage rather than compromise during the build, and every panel is numbered so a replacement can be cut years later if needed.
