VW Crafter Campervan Conversions
The current-generation Crafter (2017 onwards, refreshed for 2024) is the van our biggest builds are designed around. It is offered in three lengths, three roof heights and with a choice of front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive or 4MOTION all-wheel drive, so there is a Crafter for everything from a couple’s weekend van to a four-berth, all-season motorhome that will happily live on the Continent for months at a time.
For a converter the Crafter has two big advantages. The load bay is almost perfectly square-sided, which lets our CNC-cut furniture sit tight to the walls with minimal wasted space, and the factory wiring and CAN-bus are well documented, so integrating Victron electrics, Truma heating and camper lighting is clean and reliable. The 2024 update added the digital cockpit, improved driver assistance and a new eight-speed automatic on the higher-output diesels, which matters when you are driving a fully loaded 3.5 tonne camper across Europe.
Our Tourer XL range was developed on the Crafter MWB, and the flagship Prestige Tourer XL has been named Best Van Conversion under 6 metres two years running. Five XL packages are built on the MWB, with the Valiant and Horizon Tourer XL designed for the LWB, or we can start from a blank sheet with a fully bespoke build. Every Crafter conversion leaves our ISO 9001 workshop with a 3 year warranty.

Choosing Your Crafter
Which Crafter is right for your build depends on how many people travel, whether you want a permanent bed, and how much you value a compact footprint. Here is how the three bodies compare from a conversion point of view.
Around 3.45 m of load length and the base for five of our XL packages, from the Coastal Tourer XL to the Prestige Tourer XL. Fixed or fold-up double bed, shower room and kitchen in a van that still fits most car parks.
Roughly 4.3 m of load length. Base for the Valiant Tourer XL (fixed bed, wardrobe and shower room) and Horizon Tourer XL (twin benches that make a 1.76 m double), with 90 litre tanks.
Close to 4.85 m load length with the extended rear overhang. Ideal for four-berth family layouts, bike garages or a genuine home-from-home for full-time travel.
Most Crafter campers are 3.5 tonne. If you want a full washroom, large lithium bank and water tanks in an XLWB, we can build on a 5.0t chassis (C1 licence) for realistic payload.
The Prestige Tourer XL is the flagship of the XL range, awarded Best Van Conversion under 6 metres in both 2025 and 2026. Built on the Crafter MWB at £51,500, it is a gasless, off-grid two-berth with a fold-up bed frame and 4″ memory-foam mattress, gloss-black side flares, a shower room with the waterless Clesana C1 toilet, Truma D6E diesel and electric heating, and a curved in-house kitchen with double induction hob and Vitrifrigo C50i fridge.
Power comes from a Victron 400Ah lithium system with MultiPlus-II 3000VA inverter, Cerbo GX and Touch 70 display, fed by a 365W solar panel. The Mobiframe RAM03 twin seat adds two Isofix travel seats, and the ceiling is finished in oak or black walnut veneer. Add an Atek pop-top for a full four-berth family camper.
The Crafter’s width between the wheel arches and its long, flat floor make it one of the easiest vans to fit a comfortable permanent bed into, and each of our XL packages takes a different approach. The Coastal, Regal and Valiant Tourer XL use a fixed bed frame with a deep 6″ mattress and a garage beneath for bikes and boards. The Highland and Prestige Tourer XL use a fold-up frame, so the bed can be raised and locked to open up the full length of the van for a load run.
The Ocean and Horizon Tourer XL take a third route: two long bench seats that work as singles by day and pull out into a double of up to 1.76 m x 1.95 m at night, which suits couples who want a proper lounge. Gloss-black side flares add width on the MWB builds, and every mattress has a 2″ memory-foam layer and a Cool Tech cover.
A Crafter camper spends a lot of its life away from hook-up, so we design the electrical system first and the furniture around it. Every XL package runs the same Victron system: two 200Ah lithium batteries (400Ah), a MultiPlus-II 12/3000 inverter/charger, Orion XS 50A DC-DC charger, SmartSolar MPPT, Lynx distribution and a Cerbo GX with Touch 70 display. A third battery and second Orion XS take it to 600Ah with 100A of DC charging for £1,750.
Solar is 365W on most XL builds and 430W on the Coastal and Highland Tourer XL, mounted with Scanstrut glands and black aluminium spoilers. Sockets, USB-C and a pop-up wireless charging point are positioned where you actually use them, and the display shows solar yield, battery state and tank levels at a glance. Everything is covered by our 3 year warranty.
Rather than stepping up to a longer van, many Crafter owners add an Atek elevating roof to take a two-berth XL package to four berths. The Atek roof is engineered for the Crafter and MAN TGE body and comes with a 1.2 m x 2 m upper mattress and access ladder for £9,220 in white gelcoat, with colour-coding to the vehicle at £920 and a Maxxfan in the roof as a further option.
It is the route we recommend for families who want a Crafter MWB that still parks easily but sleeps four in comfort, and it is available on every XL package.
The MWB is our best seller because it takes five of the seven XL packages, including the Prestige Tourer XL complete with shower room, and still drives and parks like a van rather than a motorhome. Choose the LWB for the Valiant Tourer XL (fixed bed, wardrobe, 90 litre tanks) or Horizon Tourer XL, and the XLWB for a bespoke build if you regularly travel as a family of four or want to carry bikes inside. We build on all three and will talk you through the trade-offs before you buy a base vehicle.
Yes. Our furniture and electrical designs have been updated for the facelifted Crafter, including the new dashboard, digital cockpit and driver-assistance systems. We also convert the e-Crafter, where the electrical system is designed around the vehicle’s high-voltage battery and charging.
A high roof gives comfortable standing height for most people and is what the majority of our customers choose. The super-high roof adds extra headroom and storage above the cab but increases overall height, which can limit car parks and ferries. A standard-roof Crafter can be converted with an Atek pop-top to gain standing height at camp.
The XL range runs from the Coastal Tourer XL at £39,995, a fixed-bed conversion without a shower room, through the Highland (£45,995), Regal (£46,995) and Ocean (£47,995) to the Prestige Tourer XL at £51,500, all on a customer-supplied MWB. The LWB Valiant and Horizon Tourer XL are £52,950 and £53,500. Fully bespoke builds are priced on specification and we provide a fixed, itemised quote before any work starts.
Yes. VB Comfort semi-air suspension with a digital display is a £2,095 upgrade on any XL package, and full VB self-levelling air suspension, coilovers and spring upgrades are available on request. On a fully loaded camper it restores ride height, stops the rear squatting under load and makes a real difference to comfort and stability on long motorway runs.
We do. The MAN TGE shares its body with the Crafter so every layout on this page transfers directly, and the Mercedes Sprinter is a similar-sized van with its own dedicated page. Both are covered by the same 3 year warranty.
An XL package build is typically 10 to 12 weeks in the workshop. Fully bespoke Crafters with pop-tops, air suspension and custom upholstery can run to 14 weeks. We agree a start date when you book and keep you updated with photos throughout.

Big van, bespoke furniture
The furniture in a Crafter has to be light enough to protect payload, strong enough to survive years of rough roads and shaped precisely to the van’s curves. We draw every unit for your specific layout, cut it on our own CNC router and edge-band it in-house, then fit it in the same workshop. Nothing is bought in as a flat-pack module.
Curved cabinet fronts, halo lighting above and below the units, a black-core veneer ceiling in oak or black walnut and Milan fabric detail on the doors and wall panels are all standard finishes on our Crafter builds, and you choose worktops, lining colours and upholstery from our sample room before we start.
Lightweight ply and honeycomb board are used where they make sense so your finished Crafter keeps realistic payload for water, gear and passengers.
Oak or black walnut veneer ceilings, curved fronts and Milan fabric trim as standard, with a full range of worktop, lining and upholstery samples to choose from.
Beds, seats, heaters and roofs come from Reimo, Mobiframe, Truma, Atek and Victron so the whole vehicle can be reclassified and insured as a motor caravan.
