Bespoke Mercedes Sprinter Conversions

Why Choose the Mercedes Sprinter?

The Mercedes Sprinter is widely regarded as one of the best base vehicles for larger campervan and motorhome conversions in the UK. Built on a robust commercial chassis with proven long-distance reliability, the Sprinter offers the space, payload capacity and build quality needed for serious touring and off-grid living. With multiple wheelbase lengths,  medium (MWB), long (LWB) and extra-long (XLWB), three roof heights and a gross vehicle weight of up to 5 tonnes, there is a Sprinter configuration to suit virtually any conversion brief.

At Knights Custom Conversions, we build fully bespoke Mercedes Sprinter campervans and motorhomes in our dedicated Lincolnshire workshop. The Sprinter’s generous interior dimensions,  including full standing height in high-roof models, allow us to create layouts that simply aren’t possible in smaller panel vans: permanent fixed beds, dedicated washrooms, full-length kitchens with ample worktop space, and substantial off-grid electrical systems. Every conversion is designed around how you plan to use the vehicle, using custom-made furniture produced on our own CNC machines and finished with the same premium materials and attention to detail that has earned us ISO 9001 certification.

Whether you want a luxury touring motorhome for extended European trips, a rugged off-grid adventure van, or a versatile sportshome with space for bikes, boards and gear, we will work with you from initial concept through to handover. All of our Mercedes Sprinter conversions come with a 3 year warranty as standard.

Leather Upholstery van seating

Our Mercedes Sprinter conversions come with a choice of standard material seating or an upgrade to our premium Nappa leather upholstery. The Sprinter’s spacious cab and living area give us more scope for creative seating arrangements from swivelling captain’s chairs to full-length bench seating and dedicated lounge areas. Every seat and cushion is hand-trimmed in a wide range of colours to match your interior vision. Nappa leather is hardwearing, easy to clean and gives your Sprinter a truly luxury feel.

The Mercedes Sprinter’s interior volume opens up sleeping and seating options that smaller vans simply can’t match. Depending on your chosen layout, we can fit permanent fixed beds including island beds, transverse doubles and overcab sleeping areas in high-roof models,  without sacrificing daytime living space. For more flexible setups, we offer TUV approved sliding seat bed systems from Mobiframe and Reimo, available in multiple width configurations with belted seats and Isofix points. Whether you need a comfortable two-berth touring layout or a four-berth family setup with a pop top roof, we’ll design a sleeping configuration that works for how you actually use the van.

VanShades window pods bring a clean, modern finish to your Mercedes Sprinter conversion. The foil-lined cellular blind design provides both blackout and thermal insulation, keeping you warm in winter and cool in summer. With the Sprinter’s larger window openings, quality blinds make a real difference to temperature regulation and privacy, especially on extended trips. We also fit VanShades chair pods with gas struts and Loc 8 tables , clever, space-saving solutions that are particularly effective in the Sprinter’s generous interior.

Common Questions

It depends on how you plan to use the van. The medium wheelbase (MWB) Sprinter is a popular choice for couples who want a manoeuvrable, practical campervan without the bulk of a longer vehicle, it’s easier to park and has a lower kerb weight, giving you more payload for your conversion. The long wheelbase (LWB) is our most common Sprinter build, offering enough space for a permanent fixed bed, full kitchen, washroom and generous storage. The extra-long wheelbase (XLWB) suits those who want maximum living space or a dedicated garage area for bikes and gear. We’ll help you choose the right configuration based on your priorities.

A typical Sprinter conversion takes between 8 and 14 weeks depending on the complexity of the build. Simpler layouts with standard fittings sit at the shorter end, while fully bespoke builds with washrooms, custom electrics, pop top roofs and Nappa leather upholstery will take longer. We’ll give you a clear timeline before any work begins and keep you updated throughout the build.

Yes, the Sprinter’s interior space is one of the main reasons people choose it over smaller vans. We can fit a dedicated washroom with a cassette or porta potti toilet and a shower, typically located behind the cab or at the rear depending on your layout. In LWB and XLWB builds, the washroom can be a fully enclosed, self-contained room rather than a compromised wet-room arrangement.

You can bring your own Mercedes Sprinter, whether it’s brand new from a dealer or a used vehicle you already own. If you’d prefer us to help source the right base vehicle, we’re happy to advise on what to look for in terms of model year, engine specification, wheelbase length, roof height and payload capacity to suit your planned conversion.

The Mercedes Sprinter and VW Crafter share the same basic platform and dimensions, so from a conversion perspective the interior space and layout options are very similar. The main differences come down to engine and drivetrain preferences, dealer network, warranty terms and personal brand preference. We convert both vehicles and can advise on which suits your needs. If you already own either a Sprinter or a Crafter, we can work with it.

Every conversion we carry out comes with a 3 year warranty as standard. This covers all workmanship and the components we install. We use TUV approved products from manufacturers such as Reimo, Mobiframe and Webasto, and our workshop is ISO 9001 certified, so you can be confident in the quality and longevity of the build.

Yes, we supply and fit pop top elevating roofs to the Mercedes Sprinter from leading manufacturers including Reimo and SCA. A pop top adds an upper sleeping area and additional headroom, making it possible to sleep up to four people. It’s a popular option on MWB Sprinter builds where owners want to maximise sleeping capacity without extending the vehicle length.

Absolutely. The Sprinter’s high payload capacity makes it one of the best platforms for serious off-grid builds. We can fit large lithium battery banks, roof-mounted solar panels, Victron energy management systems, underslung fresh and waste water tanks, Webasto or Eberspacher diesel heating, and a full 240v inverter system. This means you can run appliances, charge devices and heat the van for extended periods without mains hookup  ideal for wild camping, European touring or overlanding.
