Knights Custom Conversions was built on the Volkswagen Transporter. Over the years we have converted hundreds of T5, T6 and T6.1 vans, refined our package layouts on them and won Best VW Campervan at the NEC for two years running. Whether you want a Kombi day van for weekends or a fully equipped pop-top camper that rivals a factory California, the Transporter remains the most versatile van we work with.
The T6.1 is still the most sought-after base vehicle, with a huge choice of roofs, seat-beds and accessories designed specifically for it. The new T7 Transporter, which shares its platform with the Ford Transit Custom, is now arriving with customers and we are converting it alongside the older vans using components proven on the Ford body.

Our Prestige Tourer Plus is a double award-winner, named Best VW Campervan at the NEC Camper and Motorhome Show, and our Prestige Tourer XL has taken Best Van Conversion under 6 metres two years running. The All New Prestige Tourer Plus brings together everything we have learned on the Transporter: a Mobiframe sliding seat-bed, curved in-house kitchen with induction hob and 35L top-loading fridge, a full Victron 400Ah lithium system with 300W solar and a colour-coded Reimo roof, for a finish that most owners compare with a factory California.
It is the reason many customers travel from across the UK to have their T6.1 converted here.
Our Prestige and Advent Tourer packages use the Mobiframe SAF 43 sliding seat-bed, available as a 112 cm two-seater or 118 cm three-seater on the T6.1 and with a 126 cm Isofix three-seater on the T7. It slides on a floor rail to give a large load area or a rear lounge and folds flat into a double bed. The Mountain Tourer takes a different approach with two RIB Neptune single seats that slide sideways and forwards to become two 60 cm singles or a 120 cm double.
Prefer an open-plan lounge? The U Tourer’s U-shaped bench seating with lift-up storage converts into a bed around an island table. Reimo Variotech 3000 seat-beds are still available as a stand-alone fitting service.
The Transporter has the widest choice of elevating roofs of any van we convert. The Prestige Tourer and U Tourer include a Westdubs roof in white or black gelcoat, the Prestige Tourer Plus and Advent Tourer a colour-coded Reimo roof with front spoiler and sprung bed, and the Mountain Tourer a Reimo reverse-opening roof. Upgrading a Prestige Tourer to the Reimo roof is £2,870 on the T6.1, and Austops roofs are available as a stand-alone fitting.
Roof fitting is also available as a stand-alone service if your van is already converted.
Our in-house trim shop re-covers Transporter cab seats and seat-beds in Nappa leather with contrast stitching, piping and embroidered logos to match your interior, or in hardwearing fabrics if you prefer. It is also where we fit Vanshades window pods and chair pods: foil-lined blackout blinds that add insulation and privacy while keeping the clean look of the van.
Loc8 tables and bespoke storage pods complete the interior.
VW Transporter Conversion FAQs
Do you convert the new VW Transporter T7?
Yes. The T7 shares its body with the Ford Transit Custom, so the roofs, windows and seat-beds we have proven on the Ford transfer directly. We convert the diesel, PHEV and electric T7 alongside the T5, T6 and T6.1.
What is the difference between a Kombi conversion and a full camper?
A Kombi or day-van conversion typically adds windows, lining, a seat-bed and perhaps a pop-top so the van sleeps in but stays a five-seat daily vehicle. A full camper adds a kitchen with hob, sink and fridge, leisure electrics, heating and water so you can live in it. Many customers start with a Kombi and add the kitchen later.
How much does a VW Transporter conversion cost?
On a T6.1 the U Tourer starts at £23,295 (£27,960 with pop-top), the Prestige Tourer at £33,775, the Advent Tourer at £38,035 and the Prestige Tourer Plus at £41,495 and the Mountain Tourer at £36,995. T7 prices are typically £1,500 higher. Kombi conversions and individual services such as a pop-top are priced separately. See the packages page for current prices and optional extras.
SWB or LWB Transporter for a camper?
The SWB is by far the most common and suits most pop-top layouts. The LWB gives an extra 40cm behind the seat-bed, which is what makes the Advent Tourer possible with its fixed rear toilet and privacy door, and it unlocks the double induction hob and larger fridge options on the other packages.
Can I buy a converted Transporter from you instead?
Yes. We usually have new and used VW campers for sale, either built to our standard packages or part-exchanged by previous customers.
How long is the wait for a Transporter conversion?
A full package build takes 4 to 8 weeks once the van is in the workshop. Lead times vary through the year, with spring being busiest, so get in touch early if you want the van for a specific trip.
